Emo

Hello friends! I know, I know, no one posts this much in two days. Except me. Now I was just thinking about labels and what people percieve others as and I decided to bring up a very misinterpreted and touchy subject: emo.


Ah, emo. Such different views of what emo really is! My idea of being truly emo is emotional. See the similarities? Emo-Emotional. Get it? Oh! Now you see it! The word "emo" is derived from the word "emotional". Below is a list of what it takes to be emo:


1. Being moody; having mood swings often or getting hurt, mad, sad, frustrated very easily.


2. Low self-esteem; not thinking you're good enough for someone or something.


3. Being into poetry/music, especially about death, destruction or serious issues in life.


4. Being self destructive; cutting yourself or attempted suicide.


5. Independence and need for privacy; want to be left alone as often as possible


6. Easily bored/uninterested


7. NOT a girly-girl or jock! Usually teased/shunned by such people


8. NOT a shallow person! You look beyond the surface and have passion for the things you love to do.


If you can relate to 4 or more of the descriptions on the list, you are emo. Now, if you dress emo, you are not necessarily emo. You just look emo. And not all emos dress like it, either. So be careful when calling someone emo. Now here is a list of the stereotype-emo's wardrobe:


1. Really tight pants (usually skinny jeans)


2. Gothic looking shirts


3. Colors: black and red/dark purple/green/dark blue/white/yellow/silver/gray













4. Black nail polsh


5. Scarf (optional)


6. Black eyeliner (usually so much they look like a racoon)


7. Black/dark red lipstick/lip gloss (preferebly girls only)


8. Black boots (again, girls only)


9. Fishnet gloves! (I love these)


Are you all sorted out? There is a difference between looking emo and being emo. I would also like to point out that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOTH AND EMO!!! I am really tired of people mixing them up! Goths are always being falsely accused of being emo. That's like calling a parakeet a parrot! They might both be birds, but they are completely different types! Being gothic includes the following:


1. Wearing gothic clothes


3. Wanting/trying to become a vampire


4. Being interested in vampires and/or witchcraft

5. Do not have to wear black all the time

If you can relate to one or more of the previous characteristics, you are considered goth. WARNING: NOT ALL GOTHS WORSHIP THE DEVIL. IN FACT, FEW DO. ALSO, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE DEPRESSED, VIOLENT, EVIL, OR ANTI-SOCIAL TO BE GOTH. GOTHS CAN BE NICE, HAPPY PEOPLE, TOO.

But the best solution is not to call someone a label. You're not in their head. You don't know what they're like! So, in the words of cowgirl4christ:

"Labels suck.

Unless you're a can of soup.

We are not soup.

Ditch the labels, alright?!"
