Hello everybody! How was life without me? Boring? Yes, I know, but know you can be happy again because I'm back!
"And there was much rejoicing in the land. 'Yay...'"~Monty Python's The Holy Grail
Anyway... D.C. was awesome! If you didn't already know, Casey, my mom and I went to Washington D.C. on Thursday. It was so much fun! We saw the Freer Gallery of Art, the monument, the Capitol, Chinatown, the International Spy Museum, the house where Lincoln died after he was shot and the Holocaust museum.
Thursday: First was the monument. Casey and I were playing on these over sized vents that blew really strong air out. We looked like idiots, but it was fun :p Next, we saw the Capitol. We didn't go in, we just saw it. The Freer Gallery of Art was cool. Lots of art... Finally, on our way back to the hotel, we saw this spot where there was a huge banner and a little table with four people sitting on the grass. Behind them were hundreds of backpacks all spread out. It looked like a cemetery. When we got closer we found out that each backpack was dedicated to a student who committed suicide and the banner read "Last year 1,100 students committed suicide. Stop student suicide." It was really moving.
Friday: After Casey and I managed to wake up-around 11:00am-we went to Chinatown to eat. Then we saw the International Spy Museum. It was amazing. The unbelievable things spies do and use. It was a really big museum, but really amazing. When you walk in, you're given a cover and a mission. It's really fun and we learned about all these famous people back in the 70's and 80's who were actually spies! (ex. John Ford and Josephine Baker) Last was the Ford's Theater-where President Lincoln got shot. But they were doing repairs and wouldn't open until May. So we saw the house across the street where he died.
Saturday: We saw the Holocaust museum. Oh. My. Gosh. That is a scary place. It was all about the Holocaust when Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany and wanted to create the perfect race. He created an army of people who agreed with him called the Nazis and killed and tortured all Jews. He thought that Jews were "inferior" to his perfect German race. Scary. Sick. Disturbed. Unnatural. It was terrible. There was one part where they had a huge hole with hundreds and hundreds of shoes. The room was all white and completely bare except for the shoes and this poem (as best as I can remember it):
"We are shoes, the last witnesses.
We are the shoes who,
only because we are made of leather and cloth and not flesh and bone,
were saved from the hellfire"~ *name not available*
But on a slightly brighter note, let me tell you about my Amtrak ride to and from D.C. My goal was to listen to the 40 MCR songs I have on my iPod straight through without skipping anything. I got to 35 going to D.C. before Casey got bored and wanted to get a snack. Grr... Then, on the way back, I got caught up talking to Casey and only listened to 37! So close, yet...
Well, off to enjoy my day. Hope you enjoyed my unbearably long post! Bye!

It sounds like you had a great trip! I've always wanted to go to D.C. ever since I saw National Treasure. I'm going to have to add that to the bucket list. That is sad about the backpacks and the Holocaust museum. It definitely puts things in perspective and makes you grateful for the things you have. Congrats on listening to 37 songs though! :)
I've never had an interest in going to D.C, but it sounds like you had an awesome trip!
Last time I was headed back from a horse show I was feeling kinda old school and listened all the way through I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. It was wicked tight :D
